A big fat pin collection inspired by the chonky bears of Katmai National Park. Featuring the lauded top-of-the-falls fishing technique, mama bears and their roly-poly cubs, sneaky seagulls, and the salmon that just need to keep on swimmin'.

Surveys are coming!

In the last couple of weeks, we've been focused on finalizing artwork for the manufacturer, ordering samples, and getting the Pledge Manager and pre-order store set up. We're just about ready to send the smoke test, which will help us identify any issues with the survey. If all goes well with the smoke test, you should receive your survey by next week.

It’s essential to respond to your survey as quickly as possible since we need this information to fulfill your rewards. Surveys will be open until Friday, November 29th, at which point we'll start tallying the final quantities for all the rewards and placing the orders with the manufacturers.

You do not need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey. When you receive the survey invite email, click the survey link to respond. You'll be able to review the rewards you selected during the campaign, provide your shipping information, and purchase additional items if you'd like. 

After you respond to your survey, you can always go back later and change your responses at any time before we close the surveys and get our final counts. We will be processing any charges for additional purchases AFTER January 1st, 2025, and we'll send another Update to notify backers in advance of charging cards.

Due to the volatility of shipping prices, shipping fees for this project will be calculated and charged closer to the fulfillment date so that we can offer the most accurate and economical prices. We will keep you informed all along the way and will alert backers when shipping costs are finalized & before we charge your cards. 

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://chonky-bears.backerkit.com/.

If you used your Facebook credentials to log in to your crowdfunding account, the BackerKit survey is sent to the email address associated with your Facebook account. If you have another email address that you prefer to use, please contact support at https://chonky-bears.backerkit.com/faq.

After surveys are sent, if you did not receive the email and you signed in with Apple ID, your email address might be a private relay email address. We can help locate your survey and update your email address—please message us or post a comment with your Backer ID or Pledge # found on your confirmation. You can learn more about your email hiding for your Apple ID here.

Thank you again to everyone that has backed this project. Crys and I have been enjoying these chonky bears so much and have been so grateful to see others sharing in the love of these fuzzy friends.

It's also been great hearing your thoughts and ideas along the way and incorporating your feedback into this project.

Now that the campaign has concluded, we'll be moving on to the production phase and will keep you appraised of our progress along the way.

These Chonky Bears are at the finish line

We've got 5 days left in this campaign and we've come such a long way! You've helped us decide on the final design for the pin display board, unlock a double-sided acrylic keychain, unlock a chonky bear beanie, and choose a beanie style. (As a reminder, the keychain and beanie are included in the All-In tiers at no extra charge.)

The Full Bear Mode beanie won in the poll, and it is now available as an add-on. Now we're asking for you help once again—this time to choose the design. Would you prefer a medium snout or a large snout? You have until Saturday night to weigh in.

Backer Esanctu gave us a great idea to make the Anatomy of Chonky Bear art into a print. Since the postcards have been so well received, Justin got to work and created 3 additional art postcards to round out a full set. This is now available as an add-on, as well.



We think there is a good chance we'll hit $15K to unlock the hoodie by the end of this thing, and maybe even the sticker book. Our paws are crossed! If you'd like to help unlock those final stretch goals, please share the campaign with a friend who needs more bears in their life.

With all of the unlocks and voting, we are proud to say that this campaign has grown nice and chonky. You all are proving that backers make it better! We are once again so thankful to have your support and input to help us shape the campaign. We're looking forward to wrapping this up next week and getting to work on bringing the Chonky Bears to life in production.

The Science of Chonky Bears

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to check-in and thank everyone who has backed the project so far. Crys and I are both so thrilled with how warmly these bears have been received.

I also wanted to take a moment to explore what actually makes a bear chonky. Is it all that extra fluff they surround themselves with? Is it more of an attitude? Through exhaustive science, I have documented some of the main elements that we've agreed identiy a bear as chonky. Please enjoy.


Also just a note that we've reviewed the poll and an overwhelming amount of folks wanted to see the beanie go full bear mode, ears activated! We’re now working on the design for the beanie and hope to share it soon.

Woohoo! We've crossed the $12K funding mark and unlocked a new-add on. The beanie took a strong lead in the poll, so we're going to call it a bit early. Now it's time for you to help us decide on the style—Standard, PomPom, or Bear Ears. Once we have this decided, we will figure out how best to incorporate the artwork.

The beanie is now available to add on to your pledge, and has been added automatically to the All-In pledge tiers at no additional charge.

Next Stretch Goal
Our next stretch goal is $15K and at that point we'll design a cozy hoodie (with your help!) to coordinate with our collection.

Five More Mini Paintings
And as a heads up, we saw that y'all are fans of Justin's mini paintings so we have made 5 more pieces available! We aren't able to offer these as add-ons since we can't limit those during the live campaign, but all other tiers are offered as add-ons in case you'd like to reconfigure your pledge. If you pledged for an early bird tier but you also want a painting, please reach out to us at [email protected] and we'll figure something out.
